Howdy Stranger loves Martin Sharp
Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 10:26PM Sitting at home contemplating what to post today... and I looked up and there above the faux fireplace it was... Martin Sharp, not the real him.. sitting on my mantlepiece (slightly creepy). One of his Nimrod Theatre prints.
Martin Sharp an Australian artist, cartoonist, songwriter and film maker. He is Australia's very own true pop artist. His works often often reference iconic Australian landmarks like Luna Park.
During the mid-Seventies, Martin was probably best known in Australia for his work with the Nimrod Theatre, for whom he produced his famous series of screenprinted posters, as well as designing numerous sets, costumes and scenery pieces.
We were lucky enough to pick up a few of these very prized prints from a local antique shop in Morpeth about 6 or 7 years ago.
This one is hanging above the mantlepiece..
This one is in the bedroom
This one was given as a present to a friend.
And below are some more great examples of Sharp creative talent... I love his use of colour!

And his most famous Nimrod Poster.
